Imphal, March 21 2018: In a departure from routine and stereotyped career counselling programmes, a unique first of its kind initiative was undertaken by 31 Assam Rifles in Kamjong district titled "Carving Own Path through Self Discovery" .

The event organised over two days on 20th and 21st March 2018 brought together a panel of 18 experts from diverse fields.

Individual one on one sessions with young school children of classes 8th to 10th ensured that interaction was based on aspirations, aptitude and interests of the children.

'Carving own path through self discovery'

Prior to the interactive session, the children were given a mind initiator questionnaire designed to bring out a student's self portrait.

Based on the self portrait, the panelists prepared their own assessment of the student focusing on strengths, weaknesses, capabilities and desires.

With blueprints ready, the interactive session synchronised thoughts and suggested the executive plan for the recommended path.

305 students participated in the two day event.

Coming after an exhaustive exam season, the initiative got together various stakeholders - the students, teachers, parents and members of the district administration to guide young children in their future steps.

The overwhelming response was a reflection of the involvement and efforts of Assam Rifles in being a catalyst to community development in their much acknowledged role of 'Friends of the Hill People' and Sentinels of the North East.
