Imphal, July 20 2022:
NHIDCL general manager Ashutosh Mishra has stated that the damaged Irang Bridge will be re-constructed within 10 days and made motorable by first week of August.
Ashutosh made this statement when a
joint team of Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA), Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union & Senapati Truck Owners' Union led by MDA general secretary Ksh Sanjay Singh visited the location where Irang Bailey bridge collapsed and plunged into Irang river on May 12, 2022 .
The GM said that all requirements are in place for reconstruction of the bridge.
"The re-launching work will be started by tomorrow (Thursday) and will be completed in 10 days.
It will be motorable by 1st week of August," reiterated Ashutosh.
He also informed that the previous (collapsed) bridge was 150 feet long and Double-Double Reinforcement (DDR) whereas the new structure will be Triple Double Reinforcement (TDR) and its span will be 160 feet.
The re-launching activity will be carried out by Guardian Reach Shipyard Engineers (GRSE) based in Kolkata, he said adding that 20 personnel will be working in day and night shifts under the supervision of NHIDCL.
It may be mentioned that Irang bridge collapsed after heavy rainfall and swift water current washed the eastern abutment of the bridge.
Meanwhile, MDA secretary Ksh Sanjoy appealed to the government and work agency concerned to expedite the re-launching and regulate normal vehicular movements along NH-37 as early as possible, as there is limited stock in Imphal and farmers are suffering from non-availability of fertilisers.
He also stressed that the said route should be properly maintained by deploying adequate manpower and machineries.
