Imphal, December 19 2024:
The violent campaign by the Kukis is opportune time for the Meeteis to unite but Meeteis sadly are unable to band together till today, said retired District and Session Judge A Noutuneshwari.
She made the statement during the 21st foundation day observance of Women Association for Socio-Economic Development (WAFSED) at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking at the event held under the theme "Achangba Khunai Ama Sembada Nupisinge Thoudang (Role of women in building a vibrant society), Noutuneshwari continued that there are too many leaders in Meetei community but people don't see much co-ordination or a sense of unity among them.
Maybe everyone wants to be a leader, she said and added that people should focus more on safeguarding Manipur instead of vying for the leadership position all the time.
Stating that the Manipur Government should work extra hard to provide quality education to the youngsters so that they can crack National level competitive examinations in future, Noutuneshwari added that the education system in Manipur, unfortunately, is still not at par.
Many Meetei students have become village volunteers and are guarding villages by putting their lives at risk, she said and added that students skipping classes en masse, however, will do more harm than good to the Meetei community as a whole.
Meetei women, especially, have to play a key role in nourishing promising children from poor families in whatever field they are good at, be it sports, education or others, she said and maintained that it is time for Meeteis to help one another so as to build a path for a vibrant Meetei society.
Now, Meeteis should get themselves involved more in community service and work together on common issues, she advised.
She also said Meetei parents should let their children set their goals high and let them pursue their dreams.
Former Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) Professor (Dr) Binota Meinam was the chief guest of the event.
She said that it is the Meetei who are at the receiving end of the ongoing conflict as their fight is to keep the State intact.
Meeteis died on the battlefield to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur, she said.
She continued that there still is time for Meeteis to unite and work together under a common interest.
Choosing the right leaders at the time of election is also very important to secure the future of Meeteis, Binota said.
WAFSED president RK Tharaksana and HERICOUN president Y Surjit also attended the programme among others.
