Jessami village celebrates Tekru-Nge festival

Ukhrul, January 19 2022:
Jessami village on Wednesday celebrated Tekru-Nge festival with the theme "The restoration of our cultural value" .
The festival which began on January 18 will be conducted till January 20 .
Speaking on the occasion, Tsirotho Pochury Chairman, Meluri Village Council stressed on the need to build strong relationships between all the neighbouring villages.
He mentioned that the settlement of land dispute between Meluri and Jessami has strengthened the inter-village relationship while encouraging the gathering to promote marriage between the villages to build better relationships.
T Pochury also extended a monetary assistance of Rs 1,00,500 to the Tekru-Nge Board.

Highlighting the importance of celebrating Tekru-Nge, Anizote Mekrisuh, chairman Jessami Village Council stated that the festival is celebrated to preserve the rich tradition and culture for the younger generations.
"Second day of Tekru-Nge is celebrated as EPFUTSII TEKRU, which means sanctification of young boys by killing the spotless cock", he added.
He mentioned that on this day all male members shall go to nearby streams or ponds early in the morning and take bath to wash away all the diseases and bring the new year with good fortune and prosperity.
"In the same way, young girls of the village are sanctified with unblemished hens and take bath early in the morning", he asserted.
Council members, village chief, Head GB and GBs, ex-chairman, youth leaders and other dignitaries attended the festival.
