Imphal, September 18 2011: The Union Government has been looking into the economic blockades being imposed on National Highways leading to Imphal with serious concern, stated Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat.

He was speaking at the 115th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot at Elangkhangpokpi today.

He stated that the Centre has taken serious note of the prolonged blockades.

The Centre has been closely monitoring the unfolding situation.

As such prolonged blockades are illegal, the State Government has issued order to arrest the blockade sponsors.

The Government has also issued a notice saying that properties lost because of the blockade should be paid back by the blockade sponsors, Parijat stated.

Saying that it is quite opportune to study the exploits of Lamyanba Irabot in the backdrop of the prevailing situation, Parijat recalled the works done by Irabot for upliftment of peasants and women.

The meeting was also attended by many leaders of CPI.
