Gunfight claims 2 ZUF, 1 NSCN (IM) cadres

Noney, December 17 2023: At least three cadres of two Naga militant groups got killed in a fierce gunfight which broke out in Noney district, this morning.

Reportedly, the gunfight took place at around 7 am at Lamdangmei Village Prayer Mountain under Khoupum police station in Noney and it resulted in the death of two cadres of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) Jianchui group and one cadre of NSCN (IM) .

The two deceased cadres of ZUF have been identified as Daiguang Gangmei @ Kiakna (21), s/o Poujauk-ngam Gangmei of Luang- chum (Awangkhu) Village, Noney and Rachunlung Gangmei (25), s/o Nganji-nang Gangmei of Ramgai- jang Village, Jiribam.

The cadre of NSCN (IM) who got killed has been identified as S/S sergeant major Ramreikan @ Akan from Lunghar village, Ukhrul district.

He was the commander of the operation team, sources said.

Khoupum and Noney police and various CSO teams from Noney rushed to the spot and took up the necessary actions.

The corpses have been sent to their respective villages after police verifica- tion.

Raphei Students' Union popularly known as Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL) has condoled the demise of the NSCN (IM) cadre.

In its condolence, RKL said that Ramreikan joined NSCN (IM) in 2012 and had served the Naga Nation selflessly.

Saying that they are proud of Ramreikan for the patriotism he rendered, the student union shared the grief of the bereaved family and his friends.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, it prayed.
