Imphal, October 17 2017:
United People's Front (UPF) spokesperson, Aaron Kipgen has said that Kuki armed militant groups will not remain silent if NSCN (IM) forces the chiefs of various Kuki villages located at Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts to support the Framework Agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the Cenral Government .
He made the statement during the 100 year observation of the Anglo-Kuki war at Kuki National Front (KNF) Ebenezer camp, located at Natheljang village, today .
Speaking to media persons, Aaron Kipgen said that the day has a historic significance as the British burnt down Lonpi Kuki village at Chandel district around 100 years ago, on this day, despite the effort of the Kuki villagers to oppose the forceful occupation of their ancestral territorial area by the British .
He said that the Kuki forefathers fought valiantly against the British despite not having any kind of an organised army.
Many Kuki people were killed and imprisoned from 1917 to 1919, he added .
The anniversary is observed in honour of the sacrifices made by the Kuki forefathers, he said .
Aaron explained that at present, UPF and KNO are engaged in political negotiations with the Government .
A SoO pact was signed to bring a political solution, he said and added that if the summon is not stopped UPF and KNO will not remain silent.
