29.07 kg of WY tablets seized in separate incidents

Imphal, August 17 2021:
Anti Smuggling Unit of Customs Division Imphal arrested one 31 year old Shonkhogam Mate along with 50 thousand WY tablets worth Rs 5 crore from Kakching Lamkhai this morning.
According to reliable information, officers of the Anti Smuggling Unit intercepted one individual who was seen moving in a suspicious manner at Kakching Lamkhai.
On spot verification, the person identified himself as HL Shonkhongam Mate, s/o HL Khaikholun Mate of Tengnoupal Bazar and from his possession 50 thousand WY amphetamine tablets weighing around 5 kilogram were seized.
He was produced before the Special Judge ND&PS Thoubal in the evening and remanded him to Judicial custody till August 31, said sources.
Meanwhile, a team of Narcotic and Affair of Border Police Station Manipur arrested two interstate drug traffickers including an 18 year old youth with 24.07 kilogram of WY Amphetamine tablets yesterday at around 4.30 pm from Mantripukri.
The arrested persons identified as Md.Abdul Joynul (49), s/o Md Abdul Jabar of Kwakta Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district and the 18 year old youth from Dimapur New Land Kuku Basti was produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West along with a prayer for 8 days police custody remand.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that yesterday afternoon at around 2 pm, the team carried out a frisking drive at Mantripukri area along the National Highway Imphal-Dimapur road on receiving inputs about some people trafficking banned drug items in a Tata Truck.
During the drive, one Tata Truck bearing a Nagaland registration number was found parking near the gate of the under construction New Secretariat building with two occupants.
On spot verification, the driver of the Tata Truck Md Abdul Joynul disclosed that two gunny bags of contraband WY tablets containing 10 bundles each are kept concealed under the driver cabin of the vehicle.
Saying that gunny bags containing 10 bundles each of WY tablets were opened in the presence of the staff of the District Magistrate, the 10 added that the both the occupants were have been arrested and seized the contraband drug items.
It is reported that that the drugs were procured from Moreh.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the 10 remanded the duo to 8 days police
custody till August 24 .
