Thoubal, May 17 2022:
A number of students of Wangjing High School staged a protest against the alleged lack of teachers in their school campus today and urged the State Government to address their grievances instantaneously.
Wangjing High School is among the schools which has been approved for School Phagathansi Mission of the State Government.
Speaking to the media by the sideline of the protest demonstration, Sagolsem Sushmita Chanu, a Class X student, said that as many as 448 students are being enrolled in Wangjing High School but the school has only 16 teachers.
Saying that the number was reduced to 16 as two teachers were recently transferred from the school, she maintained that the students are not able to learn all subjects due to the shortage of teachers.

Besides the lack of teachers, the school also doesn't have sufficient classrooms and furniture, the protesting student said and appealed to the State Government to send adequate teachers to the school and also look into the lack of infrastructure.
Supporting the move of the students, convenor of school management and development committee of Wangjing High School, Chongtham Suranjoy said that transferring two more teachers from the school at a time when there is already a shortage of teaching staff in the school is very unfortunate.
He said that they have recently submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister to send adequate teachers to the school.
Asking if the State Government has been attempting to abolish the school through its 'reckless' transfer policy, Suranjoy claimed that there is a shortage of English, Hindi and primary teachers in the school.
Further claiming that the State Government constructed only five classrooms under the School Phagathansi Mission and it is not sufficient to accommodate all the students, he urged all concerned to build two more rooms and appoint one regular chowkidar for the school.
The committee has been urging the State Government to look into all the facilities which are lacking in the school since last year, but no tangible actions have been taken up so far, he claimed and maintained that rice allocated for the mid day meal to the school is also insufficient to cover all the students as the data is not updated.
Urging the State Government to make the school more vibrant by sending sufficient staff and installing the much needed infrastructure, Suranjoy cautioned they and the guardians will no longer remain silent and might resort to class boycott if the demands are not heeded.
