Senapati, October 16 2015 :
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has strongly decried the dilapidated condition of NH 2 between Senapati and Mao and urged the department concerned to improve the same.
It is reported that potholes keep increasing day by day due to the rain and lack of maintenance so much so that a lane of the two lanes NH remain unused in most part of the stretch, said SDSA.
During a tour, the apex student body of Senapati said they found numerous stretches that were unmotorable.
"NH-2 other than being the main lifeline of the State has a number of schools and other important infrastructure built along the sides of the road.
Not only vehicles but the pathetic condition of the highway has been affecting even the pedestrians especially school going children who use the road to reach their respective schools.
Both the dry and rainy season equally affect the school children.
Bitumen which has been totally worn out has made the highway too dusty during the dry season and too muddy during the rainy season," said Shakpa Sebastian, general secretary of SDSA.
"There have also been also incidents when the running vehicles kicked up the laid stones and injured pedestrians," he added.
The student body further said that minimal maintenance in the past has led to the present sorry conditions of the highway.
The SDSA strongly urge and appeal the department concerned to take serious action at the earliest.
If not, the student body will start any form of democratic agitation, cautioned SDSA.
