CM talks 'deadline' at Dolaithabi project site

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has categorically stated that maximum efforts would be put in to complete Dolaithabi Barrage Project within the stipulated period given by the Planning Commission.
He also announced that the number of labourers and machinery would be increased as working season is arriving.
After the project was given investment clearance by the Planning Commission recently, Chief Minister O Ibobi, IFC Minister Ngam-thang Haokip and relevant officials conducted a field assessment of the project today.
Observing that construction of slabs is nearing completion, the Chief Minister stated that the project work would not be affected even if there is rainfall once the construction of slabs is completed.
Diversion of raw water from Thoubal Multipurpose Project to Imphal would be taken up under the Union Water Resources Ministry, Ibobi stated in a response to a query.

IFCD Chief Engineer Kh Indramani claimed that the project is complete by 50 per cent.
Work on the project was suspended for many years after some machinery engaged in the project work were set ablaze by some unidentified persons in 2000-01 .
The project work re-started only in 2008 .
Notably, the project which was aimed at irrigating 7545 hectares of agricultural land was first sanctioned in 1983 and construction started in 1992.The estimated cost of the project at that time was Rs 18.86 crores.
