With the cease-work strike of the Imphal Municipal Council entering 14th day today, the Imphal bazaar area is beginning to wear a dingy look.
As a result of the strike launched by the IMC Employees� Association, all cleaning works and water supply in the market area have been brought to a grinding halt.
Moreover, collection of rickshaw and holding taxes, issue of trade licenses and date of birth certificates as well as all other functions of the IMC have stopped due to the strike, according to a council source.
The employees have also expressed resentment against the councilors for allegedly paying not attention to the grievances of the employees.
It may be mentioned that despite the cease work strike, the octroi posts are reportedly functioning.
Meanwhile, the MAHUD commissioner, Ch Birendra, while speaking to the IFP, said the council has been instructed to submit the lists of surplus employees of the IMC with a view to downsize the council.
It has also been instructed to furnishing the reports on audits and accounts of the IMC.
Regarding the employees� salaries, the commissioner sad the salary of the IMC employees is not included in the state budget.
