Imphal, March 16 2016:
Besides its total shutdown call, the JAC against 'Anti-Tribal Bills' has announced its plan for a mass prayer cum release of 200 flying lanterns as a tribute to the nine 'tribal martyrs' to mark the 200th day of relentless struggle for the tribal cause and their continued fight against 'subjugation, marginalisation' and exclusion policies of the Manipur Govt towards the tribals.
According to a statement issued by the JAC, the mass prayer cum release of 200 flying lanterns will be held at YPA Hall, Lamka Public ground where 200 Pastors and Church Elders will be involved in releasing the lanterns.
Saying that it requires the support of at least 300 volunteers to monitor and oversee the release of 200 flying lanterns, the JAC urged interested individuals to turn up at 3 pm on March 17 at Lamka Public ground for enrolment and briefing.
It said that volunteers are required only for the mass prayer cum releasing of 200 flying lanterns programme and not for the total shutdown.
To ensure greater participation of the public, limited pieces of flying lanterns will be made available for sale at two locationsJAC's dharna point outside CCpur PS and Lamka Print, New Lamka, it said.
The lanterns may be released from individual homes across Lamka along with the release of the 200 flying lanterns in the night of March 18, it added.
Significantly the bodies of the nine people are still lying in state after they were killed during the protest on August31/September 1 last year.
