JAC demands unconditional release of "village volunteers"

Thoubal, December 15 2024:
A protest was staged against the gunning down of a teenager by security force at Salungpham in Thoubal and the arrest of six other persons with weapons at Thoubal Melaground Yairipok Lamkhai by closing Imphal-Moreh road today.
The deceased was identified as Laishram Prem (17) .
A public meeting was also held at the site of the protest, during which a JAC was constituted in connection with the Salungpham firing incident.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through Thoubal Deputy Commissioner.
From Melaground, the protesters marched towards the office of Thoubal SP and demanded unconditional release of the six "village volunteers" .
In the memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the JAC said that the body of L Prem won't be claimed until the Government terminates the police officer involved in the Salungpham firing incident.
The JAC also demanded unconditional release of the six "village volunteers" who were arrested by police following the firing incident.
The JAC also said that they will launch an intensified form of agitation if their demands are not entertained.
The six persons who were arrested by police are Thokchom Momocha Singh, s/o Th Ibochouba Singh of Heirok Part II; Sarangthem Anand Singh, s/o S Shyam Singh of Kakching Khunou; Ningthoujam Kama Singh, s/o N Ukin Singh of Samaram Palli Leikai; Ningthoujam Manoranjan Singh, s/o N Singhajit of Thingnungei Kha Leikai, T Phalguni Singh, s/o Th Devan Singh of Lamphel Sana Keithel and M Johnson Singh, s/o Kumar Singh of Lamphel Kumbirei.
