The discussion took serious note over lack of awareness on Fulbright programme among the potential applicants in North East and suggested that along with conducting outreach programme, help desks should be made operation where interested persons can come for mentoring.
Not to discourage the applicants from giving up hope even if they were rejected the first or second time, the participants felt that the reasons for rejection should be communicated so that the applicants get the chance to amend themselves in future.
Experience sharing and better networking among Fulbright fellows, organising workshop on writing application, creating blog of NE chapter, convening the NE Alumni chapter meeting on rotation basis among the member NE States, etc were also among other suggestions put forward for increasing the visibility of Fulbright programme in the region.
Earlier, in the opening remarks of the discussion, Deputy Director of USIEF Diya Dutta pointed out that the United States has been keen to develop the network of Fulbright Alumni and offering various funding opportunities in this connection.
