Imphal, September 15 2024:
An order issued by the Registrar, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal on July 31, 2024 whereby a retired faculty member of the College of Agriculture (COA) which is under CAU was re-appointed as a Professor of Social Science at COA has been stayed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
The same order also gave additional charges of Dean and Director of Instruction to the faculty member.
Challenging the re-appointment order, one teacher of COA lodged a complaint at the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Guwahati Bench.
Subsequently, the bench stayed the re-appointment order saying that it violated the established rules and statutes, according to a press release issued by DESAM.
On August 4, 2024, DESAM appealed to the CAU Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar through media to review and cancel the particular re-appointment order.
The university authority came out with a clarification on August 5 claiming that the re-appointment was done as per the university's statutes and Acts.
Subsequently, DESAM protested against the alleged fraudulent re-appointment and the university authority's refusal to cancel it.
DESAM volunteers even locked the Dean's office, the student body recalled.
Now CAT, Guwahati Bench's order has proved that re-appointment of the particular retired faculty member was done by violating established rules and Acts, it said.
The student body then urged the university authority to complete the process of appointment of Deans and Directors of colleges under CAU and CAU headquarters' Director of Instruction at the earliest for which due advertisement was published on August 5, 2024 .
