Incessant rain triggers landslides at Twilang area

Kangpokpi, May 15 2022:
Many more landslides were reported today in Twilang area owing to the incessant rainfall creating more adversity to the already suffering people of the area.
At least two landslides were reported in Gelnal village making an exhaustive day for the Joint Monitoring Development Committee in clearing the debris.
Another landslide reported in between Chalwa and Govajang will be cleared by tomorrow, according to the JMDC.
Landslides were also reported in three other places near Tamei, around eight in between Chalwa and Selsi including five major landslides, one between Gelnal village and Joupi village, another landslide between Gelnal village and Banglabung, Gorkha Jhil, Gorkha Harup, Bajagara, and near Panikheti.

The non-stop rainfall also created fissures along the PMGSY road near Lamchok connecting T Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters with the District Headquarters via Imphal-Tamenglong road and another PMGSY road near Panikheti.
The JMDC informed the general public to avoid unnecessary travelling along the routes for the time being.
Yesterday, an electric pole along with wires was pulled down by the swelling river at Gelnal village.
The youth of Gelnal village and members of JMDC led by a contractual staff of the department concerned pulled out the electric pole and re-erected it today to resume the power supply.
The JMDC also appealed to the State Government and authority concerned to help the people affected by the calamity.
