Court convicts man for culpable homicide

Imphal, December 13 2024: The Court of Session Judge Bishnupur has convicted a 60 year old man in a decade old culpable homicide case today.

Yumnam Babu of Kumbi IB Road was convicted under Section 304 IPC for causing the death (not amounting to murder) of one Nongmaithem Iboton Singh from the same locality on April 27, 2014.The sentence hearing will be held on December 16 .

The judgment was delivered by Session Judge N Keertichand after the final argument hearing of the trial case.

The case was on against Yumnam Babu after a complaint was lodged by the victim's son on the night of the incident (April 27, 2014) .

As per the complainant, he received information of the convict assaulting his father using a deadly weapon, during which the latter sustained a serious injury on the head.

The complainant said that his father was found lying dead when he reached home.

Investigating Officers of Kumbi police station Naorem Bisharup Singh (1st IO) and Thoupong Joy Martin (2nd IO) submitted the charge sheet against the convict after the completion of the investigation and the Court framed charges against the convict for committing a punishable offence Under Section 302 of IPC on November 23, 2017 .

The convict pleaded not guilty when the charge was framed against him.

During the trial, the prosecutor, to prove the charges levelled against the convict, produced 11 prosecution witnesses and numbers of exhibits related to the incident before the Court.

No defence witness was produced from the side of the convict before the Court.

The Court, after hearing the submission of the public prosecutor, convicted Yumnam Babu Singh.

The convict who is presently on bail was produced before the Court by a team of Bishnupur police for the announcement of the judgment order.

He has been remanded to judicial custody.
