Imphal, March 13 2025:
As part of the National Deworming Day, the first round of giving deworming medicine to children aged 1 to 19 years was launched today.
The launching programme of the National Deworming Day was jointly organised by the Child Health Division of the National Health Mission, State Health Society and the Directorate of Health Services at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya at Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West with Health Director Dr Chambo Gonmei gracing the function as chief guest.
Other dignitaries who attended the programme were State Mission Director of NHM M Dinesh Singh, Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam and Family Welfare Director N Hemantakumar, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Chambo said that they have set a target to administer Albendazole tablets to 9,91,696 children across the 16 districts of Manipur this year as part of the deworming campaign.
Saying that children aged 1 and 2 will be given only a half of Albendazole tablet (200mg) and the rest will be given 400 mg (full tablet), he maintained that the initiative is being taken up under the Ministry of Health Services, Government of India.
Worm infections are more common in children as they often play in contaminated soil and dirty environments, he continued and added that adults can also contract worm infections.
Dr Chambo advised parents to encourage their children to practice good hygiene habits to prevent worm infections such as practising good hand hygiene, eating washed vegetables and drinking boiled and clean water.
Consuming worms or their eggs allows them to lay eggs inside the body, perpetuating the cycle of infection, he said.
