Jiribam, March 13 2016:
The Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) has suspended its indefinite economic blockade along Imphal-Jiribam road after Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and local MLAs agreed to address their demand.
The decision to this effect was taken at JDDC's meeting held on March 12 .
JDDC in a statement said the blockade will be suspended from 6 am of March 14 as per the understanding achieved with the State Government.
The committee however warned to reinstate the protest if the State Government fails to act on its promises within a short period of time.
It may be mentioned, the JDDC had imposed an indefinite blockade along Imphal-Jiribam road to demand up-gradation of Jiribam sub-division to a revenue district.
After the State Government proposed to study the demand to upgrade Jiribam to a revenue district, some organisations have voiced dissent with the decision.
JDDC, in the statement, expressed disappointment stating that their demand and the subsequent protests were backed by different groups in Jiribam.
The committee has further invited all the dissenting voices for a dialogue with the committee regarding the issue.
