Naga Women's Union (NWU) in its 22nd Annual Assembly meeting held from Oct 8 to 9 at Maringphai, Chandel district welcomed and reaffirmed the historic Indo-Naga Peace Accord signed on August 3, 2015 in New Delhi.
NWU earnestly urged the Government of India to expedite the framework agreement, and called on the Naga people to work together by shedding differences and urged the women to take due part in bringing permanent solution to the Naga political issue for a common cause.
Naga women leaders, representing various Naga tribes in Manipur raised their voice against the 3 Bills which were passed in the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 and denounced the tribal MLAs for failing to protect and defend the rights and land of the people.
NWU emphasized on the need to strengthen the women organizations and to reach out to the unreached for better relationship with other communities.
"In times of conflict of any nature it is the women who are the most affected.
Women are for peace and as a gesture of our support to peace, women should play a vital role in facing the challenges and address the issues confronting our society through peaceful means," the NWU said.
