Moirang, September 12 2024:
A large number of people aggrieved by the Government's failure to take up any decisive action even after 16 months of relentless attack by Kuki militants took out a protest rally in Bishnupur district today.
The protest rally organised by the COCOMI Students' Front was participated by a large number of students from several schools, colleges and Meira Paibis from different places of Bishnupur district.
The rally started from Kha Potsangbam Public Ground and went up to the Bishnupur mini secretariat where the protesters handed over a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram for submission to the Governor.
As they marched to the Bishnupur mini secretariat, the protesters shouted slogans like "Stop India's proxy war against Meitei immediately", "Stop India's policy to annihilate Meitei", "Go back, Central security forces", "We must protect our State", "Stop divide and rule policy" etc.
After crossing Potsangbam bridge, the protesters burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Rifles former DG Lt Gen PC Nair, Home Minister Amit Shah and Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh.
On reaching the mini secretariat, 20 student representatives and some Meira Paibi leaders went inside the DC office and handed over a memorandum to the DC for submission to the Governor.
Speaking to the media, COCOMI Students' Front media coordinator Sukham Bidyananda said that the rally was a manifestation of the people's growing anger and resentment against the Central Government's failure to initiate any action towards bringing the 16 months old violent crisis to an end.
Instead of working to bring a solution to the crisis, the Government of India seemed to be favouring the Kuki militants, he said.
With Kuki militants now using even high-tech drones for bombing civilians and long range rockets to strike Meitei targets, they are now posing serious threats to the survival of Meitei population, Bidyananda said.
With the Government of India maintaining a deafening silence even after the National security has been threatened, many people now suspect whether India has its hands in the attempts to annihilate Meitei community, he said.
Notably, two innocent civilians were killed and many others wounded in drone bombing and rocket attack by Kuki militants since the beginning of September.
