Governor Najma Heptulla has conveyed her best wishes and greetings to the people of the State on Nupi Lan memorial today.
"The movement of Manipuri women, who revolted against the export of rice as there was near famine condition in the State, popularly known as Nupi Lan, occupies a unique place in the history of the State.
Their courage, sacrifice and patriotism have inspired us and our women have carried forward these qualities till today contributing in the economic and social development of the society as well as in tackling various social evils," said the Governor in her message to the people and wished for a more peaceful and prosperous State.
Following the Governor's message, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also remembered the brave women who revolted against the British on December 12, 1939 .
"The agitation showed the world how valiant and responsible Manipuri women were towards the society.
Even today Manipuri women take the lead on various issues and have been bringing socio-political reforms in our State," said the CM in his message hoping empowered women of the State would bring progress and growth.
Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan in his message to the people described the Nupi Lan as a testimonial of courage, patriotism and sacrifice of Manipuri women.
The movement sowed seeds for economic, women empowerment and political reform, read the MP's message.
The MP also called on all to fight crimes against women and children.
Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen also wished the people on Nupi Lan.
"Nupi Lan sowed the seeds of economic and political reforms for a new Manipur.
I wish and hope that this day reminds us all the sacrifices of our Emas and let us contemplate to bring about peace, tranquillity and a developed society through inspiration from the indomitable spirit of all our Emas who stood strong for our motherland," she said in her message.
Works Minister Th Biswajit also remembered Nupi Lan and wished for a more peaceful and prosperous State.
