Senapati, December 11 2015 :
The United Naga Council (UNC) has submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh urging him to take up prompt action in the murder case of L Poumai, a promising youth from Khabung Karong village in Senapati district.
While condemning the brutal killing of the youth in the strongest terms, the UNC in its memorandum said that people of the North East region have been facing different forms of atrocity like rape, torture, verbal abuse, humiliation and other forms of racial discrimination meted out by the people of mainland India.
The memorandum said that the judiciary must direct the legislators to safeguard the people of North East.
The UNC also demanded the Centre to book the culprits behind the murder at the earliest and deliver justice to the deceased and provide special protection to the people of NE in mainland India.
A copy of the memorandum was also sent to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who also holds the Home portfolio, for prompt action and expediting investigation.
UNC thanked Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong people for co-operating and upholding their stand by not welcoming Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam to the Orange Festival 2015, sponsored by the Government of Manipur.
UNC called on the Nagas and other tribal communities to stand united against all forms of 'oppressive policy' of the State Government till 'the long cherished political aspiration' is achieved.
