Shops, houses gutted at Lilong, Thangal Keithel

Imphal, December 11 2012:
At least 12 shops and three houses were reduced to cinders by a ravaging fire that broke out at Lilong Bazar in Thoubal district this morning while six shops were charred at Thangal Bazar, Imphal this evening.
According to Md Liaqut, Secretary of Lilong Bazar Shopkeepers' Welfare Association, the incident at Lilong Bazar occurred around 8 am today.
It originated from a leaked LPG pipe of a tea stall owned by one Shivchand (60) .
Two persons were injured while fighting the engulfing flames.
Two tea stalls, one cycle workshop, a grocery, CD parlour, carpentry house, ready-made garments store and others were gutted in the fire.
The fire was put off with the intervention of Fire Service tenders from Imphal and Thoubal Fire Sub-Station with assistance from the locals.
Troops of 28 AR and Lilong PS personnel also joined in fighting the fire.

Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir, Keirao AC MLA Karam Thamarjit and DC of Thoubal rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Rs 1 Cr worth goods and properties were speculated to be damaged by the fire though official estimation is awaited.
Traffic flow along Imphal-Thoubal section of NH-2 was disturbed for a few hours due to the fire.
This is the fourth such incident in Lilong Bazar in recent time.
At the same time, Lilong Bazar Shopkeepers' Union has urged the authority concerned to deliver compensation to the shop owners in time.
Meanwhile, six shops were gutted at Thangal Bazar this evening around 5.45 when a fire broke out at Iboyaima Shopping Complex at Thangal Bazar in the heart of the city.
No human casualty has been reported.
Further escalation of the fire was prevented with the intervention of Fire Service personnel.
The worth of properties destroyed by the ravaging fire could not be established immediately.
