Imphal, August 11 2021:
In a bewildering turn of events, a resident of Andro Mamang Leikai is reported to have died 5 days after receiving Covid vaccine.
Adding more twist to the tale, it is said the locals who took part in the cremation of the deceased are in total confusion after the Covid test of the deceased returned positive.
Speaking to media persons in this regard, general secretary of Andro Eastern Library and Mamang Leikai Youth Club, Asheibam Nandakumar Meitei said that the deceased (50) received the first dose of Covid vaccine on August 3 but was rushed to RIMS on August 8 after he fell ill.
But the person died upon reaching the hospital, he said.
When tested using RAT at RIMS, the result returned negative, he said.
But doctors on duty had advised that post mortem examination of the deceased be conducted on being informed that the deceased got vaccinated.
The body of the deceased was brought to his residence later in the day before the body was deposited again at JNIMS mortuary with due consultations of the locals, he added.
After a post mortem examination on August 9, the mortal remains was brought to the village and cremated.
However, an RT-PCR test report of the deceased reading positive for Covid was received on August 10, as a sample was collected at JNIMS that too without the knowledge of the bereaved family, he said.
What is more confusing is that the phone number attached for receiving the test report does not belong to any of the family members, he said while asking as to why the dead body was handed over to the family members before the test result was available.
While demanding authorities concerned to let family members assess the details of the post mortem examination, he also requested District Magistrate or any authority concerned to conduct a thorough enquiry on the incident and provide compensation to the family members if found deem fit.
