Gunfight rocks Mayang Imphal

Imphal, December 10 2024: A gunfight broke out between proscribed groups at Mayang Imphal in the wee hours today.

It is reported that the exchange of fire took place at a fish farm some distance away from Sagaisabi road close to Karang.

The gunfight started at around 1 am and the sound of firing was heard till 3.30 am, as per locals.

It is suspected that there might have been injuries on both sides.

Mayang Imphal police have inspected the site of the incident and registered a case.

Meanwhile, a sit in protest was staged against the shoot-out at Mayang Imphal today.

The Khuman United Clubs and Meira Paibi Association (KUCMA), Mayang Imphal, in a statement, said that lack of unity among the Meeteis is prevalent amid the ongoing crisis engulfing Manipur.

Saying that infighting among the Meeteis will give an upper hand to the inimical forces who to balkanise the State, KUCMA appealed to all concerned to refrain from engaging in gunfights at Mayang Imphal and adjacent areas in future.
