Imphal, November 10 2024:
Lok Sabha Member Dr Bimol Akoijam has blamed the inconsistency and incompetency of political leaders for the untold misery being suffered by the people.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the New Development Organisation Singjamei (NDOS) at the residence of Oinam Romen at Singjamei Oinam Thingel today, Dr Bimol Akoijam said that the political leaders of Manipur have been acting like puppets.
They sit when they are told to sit and they stand up when they are asked to do so even though they often say very proudly that Manipur has a written history spanning over 2000 years, he said.
It is this inconsistency between the words and actions of political leaders which is breeding untold misery for the masses, Dr Bimol said.
Women and children are often the first victims when there is any conflict in a State or country, he said.
He also expressed heartfelt distress over the impacts of the 18 months old Manipur crisis on women and children.
The Lok Sabha member expressed deep sorrow over the killing of a young woman who was working in paddy fields by Kuki militants at Saiton, Bishnupur district on November 9 .
Dr Bimol pledged that he would give a passionate speech on the Manipur crisis in the forthcoming Parliament session.
All the elected posts are neither inheritance nor permanent.
Political leaders must know that they are administering the State as representatives of the people for a period of just five years, he reminded.
Manipur will continue to suffer as long as the number of people with double-standard is high, he said.
"Hopelessness or pessimism is our biggest enemy.
All of us need to shed all pessimistic outlook and attitude", Dr Bimol continued.
Appealing to all the political leaders to ensure that their actions and words are consistent, Dr Bimol vowed that he would certainly demonstrate what an MP can do in the next five years.
He also appealed to the people to work collectively so that democracy has its meaning in the State.
One major factor for the inability to bring an end to the protracted crisis is the political leaders' attitude of blaming others instead of accepting their failures, Dr Bimol said.
The people are suffering even more because of the failure of the political leaders to perform their duties, he said.
MLA K Ranjit also took part in the interaction programme.
