Imphal, November 10 2014: Properties worth Rs 20 lakh were gutted by fire when it razed a shop at Kangpokpi last midnight.

A shop, ML Pandey Store, one of the top shops in Sadar Hills was engulfed by fire last midnight.

The fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit.

Police estimated the loss to be worth more than Rs 20 lakh.

The fire completely damaged the shop while some furniture, electronic device, three ACs and partition of SBI Kangpokpi Branch located adjacent to the shop were also damaged.

Debu Pandey, son of Madanlal Pandey, who was present alone at the shop at the time of the incident said he was not sure of the origin of the fire.

Other family members are out of station.

Fire tenders of Kangpokpi and Senapati extinguished the fire only at around 3.30 pm with the help Kangpokpi police personnel and local people.
