SDFK chief killed in midnight raid

A combined team of 31 Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police terminated a self-styled chief of Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland (SDFK), a non-SoO group during a raid carried out at his hideout at New Lamka in the wee hours today.
A statement issued by the police said a special operation was launched jointly by the district police and 31 Assam Rifles after receiving inputs about the presence of the armed group's self-styled chief Letminthang Haokip alias Boithang and his bodyguard at Khominthang village, New Lamka.
Even as the security team surrounded a specific house, they received fire from inside the house at around 2 am.
The security forces too retaliated with maximum care to avoid collateral damage, added the statement.

Soon after the firing ceased, the security personnel who managed to make their way into the house found one person lying dead from bullet injuries while another was found injured.
The deceased was later identified as Letminthang Haokip alias Boithang, the self-styled C-in-C of SDFK while the injured individual was identified as Lunkhosei Chongloi, the bodyguard of Boithang.
Chongloi was immediately evacuated to Churachandpur District Hospital from where he was referred to Imphal for further treatment, while the body of Boithang was taken to JNIMS, Imphal for an autopsy.
The autopsy, sources said, is likely to be conducted tomorrow.
Boithang, according to the police, is a resident of M Songgel currently staying at T Molsohphai while his companion is a resident of C Aisan village, Saikul Sub-division, Kangpokpi.
The SDFK, according to the police statement, indulged in threatening and serving extortion notes to various village chiefs, shops and other business establishments in and around Churachandpur town specially in Tuibong Bazar area.
The Churachandpur police has since 2017 registered eight cases against Boithang and his men.
The security team also recovered three 9 mm pistols along with three magazines; two hand-held radio sets, 282 live rounds of 9 mm and one Honda Activa.
