Last rites of minor rape victim performed

The last rites of the 14-year-old rape victim from Mayang Imphal was performed today morning with members of family, JAC, representatives of AMMOCOC (All Manipur Muslim Organisations' Co-Ordinating Committee), Meira Paibis and CSOs taking part in a rally from RIMS to the minor's birthplace at Mayang Imphal.
The rallyists raised slogans condemning rape and crime against women and girls and demanded early justice for the minor girl.
People of various localities along the road too showed solidarity and raised slogans demanding stringent exemplary punishment to all the culprits involved.
It may be noted that the minor girl was reportedly called out of her house on the pretext of eloping by her alleged boyfriend and went missing on September 1.She was then found unconscious at a place at Mayang Imphal early morning next day (September 2) .
She was rushed to RIMS where she received treatment in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Ward.
On the same day, police arrested her alleged boyfriend and prime accused Md Arish.
The next day, September 3, she died of her injury at the RIMS ICU Ward.
Since then the body had been lying at RIMS mortuary.
Police has so far arrested six suspects including parents of the alleged boyfriend.
The six identified as Md Arish @ Maza Khan, Salim Khan, Md Noor Mohammad, Md Sikander Ali, Majida Begum and Md Feji @ Mohammad were sent to judicial custody till September 23 by a POCSO Court yesterday.
Meanwhile, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed the Investigating Officer of the case, Additional SP, Investigative Unit for Crime Against Women (IUCAW), Rattana Ngasepam to appear before the Commission and submit a status report on September 17.The MHRC was acting on a petition filed by Human Rights Council Manipur (HRCM) represented by its secretary, Advocate Rabi Khan.
The HRCM had asked the Commission to monitor and intervene in the investigation of the case and seek a status report for free, fair and speedy investigation and trial.
The HRCM's petition also asked the Commission to take notice of the demand made by some organisations that no lawyer should represent the accused person(s), which is not permissible under the Constitution and legal system.
It urged the Commission to make aware the organisations that they should refrain from making such demands.
On the other hand, Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal West 1 today remanded Mansoor Alam (37) to 15 days judicial custody till September 24 for allegedly publishing an audio recording on social network sites which 'insulted the modesty of the deceased minor girl'.
Mansoor Alam of Kairang Mayai Leikai was arrested on September 7 evening based on the complaint lodged by the convener of MMWO Women Wing.
He was produced before the JMFC Imphal West 1 after completion of 4 days police custody remand.
During the hearing today, the Investigating Officer of the case submitted that the accused allegedly admitted to have committed the crime and revealed that he himself recorded the "derogatory" conversation with a person from Mayang Imphal and sent it to around 300 persons through WhatsApp.
The IO further submitted that the accused had intentionally insulted the modesty of the minor girl.
The Court after perusing the records of the case remanded Mansoor Alam to 15 days judicial custody till September 24 .
