Another woman dies sans medical help

Imphal, August 10 2020:
Another 21-year-old woman has died reportedly due to denial of timely medical help as hospitals at Imphal maintained that there were no doctors to attend to emergency cases.
The deceased has been identified as Laishram (O) Sandhya (21) w/o of Roshan of Wangjing Wangkhei, Thoubal District.
According to her family members, Sandhya was on her fifth day of period, when the blood flow did not stop.
They contacted a nurse at her locality and administered IV solution.
But as her health condition deteriorated, she was rushed to Langol View Hospital at Lamphel at around 5.45 pm today but she was turned away saying they "don't treat emergency patients" .
Then, Sandhya was taken to Imphal Hospital which is nearby, there also they were told that there was "no doctor" .
Finally, they went to Shija Hospital at Langol, which is about 10 to 15 minutes drive from Imphal Hospital.
But doctors at Shija Hospital declared her brought dead.
Her last rites were performed after her body was brought home.
It may be mentioned here that following the death of a young pregnant woman along with her unborn child after they were reportedly denied treatment by as many as five hospitals, the State Government had issued a directive dated August 6 to all the hospitals in the State to remain open and treat emergencies at all cost.
The Government had also warned of strict legal actions against those hospitals who turn away emergency patients.
A toll free number has also been provided to lodge complaints if any hospital denies treatment.
