Imphal, February 10 2025:
Stating that N Biren Singh's resignation has come too late, the National Secretariat of the Communist Party has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the State and find a way towards lasting peace.
In a statement, the CPI said that the Chief Minister's resignation, long demanded by Opposition parties like the CPI, has come at the cost of countless lives and displacement of thousands of people.
It added that this resignation should lead to a course correction, one that involves engaging all political parties and relevant stakeholders in Manipur to work toward lasting peace.
CPI also demanded the Prime Minister to show compassion for Manipur's suffering, admit the failure of his Government's handling of the situation and show the conviction to visit the State.

Accusing the N Biren Singh regime of repressing democratic rights, the CPI further called for a high-level, impartial inquiry to investigate the allegations of harassment of CPI leaders and workers as well as the infamous "leaked audio" of N Biren Singh.
On another note, the Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) has underscored the need to form a competent new Government by conducting a free and fair election.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan, BT Road, L Sotinkumar, former State secretary, MSC/CPI reiterated that N Biren Singh's resignation came too late.
If efforts are made to facilitate his re-appointment as the Chief Minister, it will be unfortunate for Manipur.
The people of Manipur have suffered greatly under the BJP Government, he added.
Spurning the idea of appointing a new Chief Minister from amongst the ruling party MLAs, he suggested that a free and fair election should be conducted where people will get the chance to vote and choose the representative of their choice.
Only through this exercise, the territorial integrity of Manipur can be protected and people can be saved from more turmoil.
Leishangthem Thoiren, secretary, MSC/CPI was also present at the press conference.
