Imphal, April 09 2019:
Following the manifesto released by BJP which assures to implement the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill if it comes to power, the People's Alliance Manipur (PAM) has called for a boycott of the political party with immediate effect.
Speaking to media persons at Keishampat today, PAM convenor SM Jalal said that the manifesto of the BJP is anti-people, anti-Manipuri and anti-North East.
The inclusion of such a point in the manifesto is similar to a challenge against the people and this has left the people with no other choice, he said, adding that PAM and the people have imposed a boycott on BJP for the coming Lok Sabha election.
Stating that CAB is a grave threat to the survival of the Manipuri people, he said that the people of the State and the entire North East rose in opposition against the CAB in the past and eventually stopped the Central Government from bringing out the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
However, this arrogant attitude shown by the BJP in including the promise to implement CAB in its manifesto, is a clear sign that the party does not have any respect for the people, he alleged.
SM Jalal continued that it is indeed disheartening and highly condemnable on part of the BJP to assure to pass the CAB if it comes to power with such commitment and it is an open challenge to the public.
It is high time for the people to rise against such tactics of the BJP and it is also the right time for the people to teach a befitting lesson to the said political party, he added.
