Ningol United Progressive Initiative (NUPI), a Delhi-based women civil society group, has collaborated with six prominent Meitei organizations across India to observe the historic Nupi Lan on December 12 .
This collaboration aims to amplify the significance of this powerful chapter in history and unite communities in honouring the indomitable spirit of women.
The six organizations are the Manipuris in Kolkata women's wing; Indigenous Manipuri Association IMA, Guwahati women's wing; Mumbai Manipuri Association NUPI Lup; Meitei NUPI Lup Foundation, Pune; Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore (MMAB) women's wing and Takhel Leima Tengbang Lup, Agartala.
Speaking about the collaboration, Ranjana Longjam, president NUPI, said that they are honoured to expand the observance of Nupi Lan in collaboration with six Meitei organizations across India.
Together, we aim to pay tribute to the courage of Manipuri women and inspire current and future generations to carry forward their legacy of resilience and justice, she said.
Last year, Nupi Lan was observed by the NUPI group in Delhi, marking a significant moment in the organization's efforts to bring the story of women's resilience and courage to a broader audience.
This year former Indian women football captain Ngangom Bala Devi, actress Soma Laishram and senior journalist Sonia Sorenshangbam will be special guests.
Nupi Lan, a pivotal event in the history of Manipur, reflects the courage and determination of Manipuri women who stood against colonial and economic oppression; and the movement contributed much to the making of Manipur; both economic and political reforms.
