Imphal, November 08 2024:
The Rongmei Naga Students' Organization, Manipur (RNSOM) and the Rongmei Naga Youth Organization, Manipur (RNYOM) have conveyed gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Chairman of Hills Areas Committee (HAC) Dinganglung Gangmei and Manipur police "for their prompt response and intervention into the physical assault of Joshua Kamei, a driver of the NF Railway Construction by some militants who abducted him at about 12 noon of November 5 from the gate of Keikhu Kabui Khul in Imphal East" .
In a joint statement, the two Rongmei organisations said that they have decided to keep in abeyance their proposed agitation as the assailants have been arrested.
RNSOM and RNYOM said that a team of Manipur police was able to apprehend the cadres of proscribed SOREPA, as per police sources on the strong instruction of the Chief Minister.
Saying that the cadres of SOREPA were apprehended from their hideout and some arms and ammunition and four cadres of the proscribed group are reported to be in the custody of Manipur police (Imphal East), it clarified that Arambai Tenggol (AT) was not involved in the "brutal assault" and abduction of Joshua Kamei as per reliable sources.
They, RNSOM and RNYOM, extended their appreciation to Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) for extending solidarity in times of "our needs and difficult moments like this" .
The statement assured that Rongmei Naga youths and student organizations will always extend its solidarity to Naga brothers and sisters from other districts and help them in times of trouble and difficult situations.
Further, the two organizations said that hegemony of a dominant group of community should not be imposed upon other minority ethnic tribal groups particularly the Nagas in a pluralistic society like Manipur.
The Nagas have been maintaining neutrality amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, they added.
Saying the Nagas "will no longer remain silent spectators to atrocities, abductions, attacks, hijacking of vehicles and looting hard earned money of poor Naga villagers," RNSOM and RNYOM added that they will wait and watch the next course of action of the Government and its agencies.
The two organisations also said that they won't remain silent until all the culprits involved in assaulting Joshua are booked and penalised as per the law of the land.
They also demanded that the cost of medical treatment for the victim should be borne by the Government and the culprit party.
