Imphal, September 08 2024:
Giving a strong voice against any attempt to disintegrate Manipur and arrest village volunteers, a large number of youth and womenfolk took out a torch rally along Tiddim Road from Kwakeithel to Keishampat this evening.
The rally participated by youth and Meira Paibis of Kwakeithel and surrounding areas started at around 7.30 pm.
A large number of Imphal West district police personnel kept a close watch throughout the course of the rally.
At Keishampat junction, police blocked the rally and they even used steel barricades.

The crowd somehow pulled down the police barricade and marched ahead.
As the protesters reached near the junction at Paona International Market, police fired several rounds of tear gas shells.
Despite all the attempts of police to drive away the protesters, they gathered at Keishampat junction and shouted several slogans till 9 pm.
Later after the police left under the impression that the rallyists had been driven back, a large number of women gathered again and raised a number of slogans and tried to march forward towards the State BJP office.
Police resorted to firing mock bombs and smoke bombs to disperse the rallyists.
They raised slogans like, "Don't break apart Manipur", "Don't arrest village volunteers", "Dismiss Security Advisor and DGP", "Withdraw Central forces," "Long Live, Manipur" etc.
