Imphal, August 08 2015 :
Showing solidarity to the ongoing pro-ILPS movement, the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association has decided to close all the private schools till August 15 .
However, these schools will resume classes from August 17 if the Government fails to bring any solution regarding the issue within this time.
It was decided in a joint meeting on the ongoing pro-ILPS movement held today at GM hall with eminent economist Prof N Mohendra as the moderator.
Pledging support to the ongoing movement spearheaded by JCILPS, the meet- ing also resolved to submit a memorandum to the Government to restore normalcy in the State by fulfilling the people's demand for ILPS implementation.
Speaking at the meeting, Advocate Khwairakpam Tarunkumar said that Den-jong and Bhutia were the major communities of Sikkim in the past.
However, these communities have become minorities and Sikkim is now dominated by Nepalese, he said.
On the other hand, Tripuris have been outnumbered by Bengalis in Tripura, the advocate said.
As such, people of Manipur are carrying on the pro-ILPS movement in order to protect themselves from being reduced to a minority community.
Saying that non-local population is increasing at an alarming rate at greater Imphal area, Tarunkumar said that people do not intend to flush out non-locals but to regulate their entry and exit.
The legislatures must have implemented the system long before people came on to streets as it is their responsibility to safeguard their people, he observed.
