Probe fund misappropriation of IMC : Joykisan

Imphal, June 08 2022: Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan has urged the State Government to rein in the activities of the Caretaker Mayor and all the contractors of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and investigate the fund misappropriation scandal of the corporation.

Speaking to the media, the MLA continued that the Caretaker Mayor of IMC has recently identified the person who allegedly swindled huge funds from the corporation without implementing any work as Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei who is a Corporator of Ward no 1 .

Joykisan urged the Government to probe the fund misappropriation case fairly.

Claiming that there might be a group of people who used the name of Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei within IMC to carry out fraudulent activities, the MLA said that it is not possible for only one person to swindle such a large sum of money.

The MLA asked if there is a provision in the rulebook of IMC to engage an elected Corporator as a contractor in implementing a project.

Further asking why the IMC is unable to terminate Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei from the post of Corporator to date, Joykisan expressed hope that the seven member committee which was constituted to probe the matter will furnish the true report.

Claiming that Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei is a member of the ruling BJP, Joykisan urged Chief Minister N Biren to translate his assurance to root out corruption into action.

Joykisan continued that re-engaging Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei as a contractor would be unfair as he has been proven as a fake contractor.

Urging the State Government to recover the fund misappropriated and call a fresh tender for the project, Joykisan said that the Government must also investigate if Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei had the backing of any influential person.

Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) said that the organisation will launch different modes of agitation if the Government fails to take befitting action against the person who swindled public funds.
