Imphal, February 08 2014 :
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) and De-velopment Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK) have strongly condemned the attack on Tri-namool Congress legislator Th Shyamkumar by unknown gunmen last evening.
Strongly denouncing the attack on former Dy Speaker and MLA Th Shyamkumar, who is also the vice-president of MPTCC by unidentified miscreants, MPTCC deman-ded an enquiry into the inci- dent immediately and to punish the guilty.
A statement issued by the Secretary of MPTCC said that a report on the deteriorating law and order situation of the State would be submitted to the central leaders for placing the matter in the Parliament.
Asking the Home Minister to behave, the MPTCC statement questioned if the Home Minister is working for his party's sake or in the interest of the public while also demanding his resignation on moral ground for allegely failing to maintain rule of law.
The Home Minister, other Ministers and MLAs are bound to face the fate of MLA Shyamkumar if the security situation is not set right, the statement added.
Meanwhile, DOAK cautioned that the people of Andro Assembly Constituency will launch different forms of agitation if the State Government fails to find out the gunmen who opened fire in front of MLA Th Shyam-kumar near a fuel station at Koirengei yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference held at Shyamkumar's official quarter, DOAK general secretary Abungcha Kon- thoujam said a Chevrolet Beat car grazed past MLA's convoy and stopped in front of them near a fuel station at Koirengei at around 7 pm.
The MLA was heading for a marriage ceremony at Awang Leikinthabi.
The MLA then asked who the occupants of the car were, Abungcha said and added that the miscreants fled the scene after suddenly opening several rounds of fire in the air.
The MLA chased the car with his escort party towards Leimakhong, he said and added the car then drove in Leimakhong Army garrison.
Although, the Army personnel who guarded the gate of the military station allowed entry of the car, MLA's team was stopped at the gate, he added.
Unfortunately, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has not heeded to MLA's request of providing additional security after the incident, Abungcha said.
He questioned how the Deputy Chief Minister would act on common people's request if he is not listening to an MLA's plea.
Saying that it is not right to give free hand to armed miscreants, Abungcha said that 60 MLAs of the State must take a collective decision to repeal AFSPA.
Maintaining that gun culture prevailing in the State must be rooted out, Abungcha said that people of Andro AC would launch different forms of agitation if the Government fails to find out the miscreants at the earliest.
