Ex-Pradhan held for swindling MGNREGS wages

Thoubal, May 07 2020: One ex-Pradhan of Heirok Part-I Gram Panchayat has been arrested for allegedly swindling wages of MGNREGS job card holders.

The accused has been identified as Saikhom Mantri Meitei (57) s/o late Lomon Meitei of Heirok Part-I, Heituppokpi Mamang Leikai.

Laishram Khamba, incumbent Pradhan of the same Gram Panchayat filed a complaint at Heirok police station yesterday seeking arrest of S Mantri Meitei.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested Mantri from his home at around 10.30 pm yesterday.

According to the complaint filed by Khamba, Mantri, in cahoots with his son fraudulently withdrew wages of many job card holders of Heirok Part-I Gram Panchayat from HDFC Bank, Thoubal branch yesterday.

Khamba reportedly came to know about it as he received several complaints from job card holders following which he conducted an enquiry.

Mantri was produced before the Court of CJM Thoubal today and the Court remanded him to police custody for five days.
