Imphal, April 07 2019:
"We must work together to solve our problems for Delhi will never solve our problems", said North East India Development Party (NEIDP) Central Working Committee (CWC) president Narengbam Samarjit.
Speaking to a few media persons today, Samarjit said that NEIDP is contesting the 17th Lok Sabha election on the principle of regionalism.
India is a big country inhabited by numerous communities and the Constitution has many special provisions which are basically aimed at ensuring uniform development of all the communities, Samarjit said.
These special provisions incorporated in the Constitution warrants and sustains the idea of regionalism and regional issues should be tackled at regional level, he said.
He then asked how long the people of Manipur would wait for other people to solve 'our' problems.
NEIDP is a regional party set up with the primary objective of tackling regional issues.
National parties have the inherent weakness of not understanding regional issues thoroughly and as such they often fail to devise any effective solutions to regional issues.
Only regional parties can solve regional issues, Samarjit said.
If muscle power and money power are the strength of some political parties, NEIDP's strength is regionalism, he asserted.
He said that there is no power more powerful than self-identification and one day all the people of the region would realise this fact.
To a query, Samarjit clarified that there are vast differences between NEIDP and BJP in terms of areas of interests, and there is no question of forging any type of alliance between the two parties.
However, he said that NEIDP would support the Government installed at the Centre after the Lok Sabha election but this does not mean NEIDP would support BJP.
The incumbent BJP-led Government was formed after the State Assembly election but the Government does not belong to the parties which form it but it belongs to the people.
And NEIDP is only supporting the Government.
There is also a business factor for NEIDP to support the coalition Government which faced severe financial problems in its initial days, Samarjit said.
