Imphal, January 07 2022:
Condemning the 'security lapses' that led to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy being stranded at Punjab on January 5, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik along with several volunteers of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) stormed the office of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee at BT Road yesterday at around 6 pm.
The BJP workers burnt effigies of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and also kicked the gate of MPCC office.
Later, a team of Imphal West police dispersed the BJYM volunteers.
The All India Congress Committee and its Manipur unit strongly condemned the incident and submitted a report to the police station concerned against Pratima Bhowmik and BJYM Manipur president M Barish Sharma and others.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan today, AICC's Manipur-incharge Bhakta Charan Das asserted that the conduct of the BJP allegedly with the backing of the police, is unacceptable.
A Union Minister taking part in such a violent activity is a first in India's history, he said and claimed 'our Constitution doesn't grant power to carry out such offences to any Minister' .
Asking why the State is not arresting the BJP leaders and the Union Minister who stormed the MPCC office till date, BC Das said that the AICC has already demanded removal of Pratima Bhowmik from her post.
BC Das claimed that BJP has been indulging in cheap politics as the party is aware that they will lose the ensuing elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.
The claim that Prime Minister Narendra was denied entry in Punjab by the State Government is a lie, he maintained and asked why the Prime Minister who was guarded by SPG was afraid of going to Punjab.
MPCC president N Loken expressed disappointment as the State police allegedly allowed the 'violent activity' to take place in the heart of Imphal city.
The Nambol AC MLA also asked if the State has arrested anyone who has been intimidating non-BJP candidates and their supporters ahead of the Assembly polls.
All the accused involved the ghastly attack in Heirok that killed a 21 year old student were actually arrested after they surrendered and there are certain signs of negligence on the part of police in taking up the case, he claimed.
The DGP of Manipur Police should know very well that Congress will form the next Government by March 19 .
Saying that Congress too has its youth's wing, N Loken added that MPYCC will never go down to the level of BJYM as the party firmly believes in non-violence.
