Kangpokpi, December 05 2024:
Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), after discussions with civil society organisations, has announced the lifting of the ongoing shutdown of business establishments in Sadar Hills.
The shutdown will officially end Thursday midnight.
This decision follows extensive discussions with the 'centre-deputed' DGP, Manipur.
The talks were initiated in response to the public appeal issued by the state government on December 3, calling for the resumption of movement of public transport buses along the Imphal-Kangpokpi-Senapati and Imphal-Bishnupur-Churachandpur routes.
CoTU spokesperson Ng Lun Kipgen expressed gratitude to the public for their unwavering cooperation and resilience during what the committee described as 'tumultuous times'.
The shutdown, which had brought economic activities to a standstill, was aimed at voicing the collective concerns of the Kuki-Zo community and demanding attention to their grievances, Lun Kipgen stated.
He further remarked that the talks with the DGP were 'lengthy yet fruitful', signalling progress in addressing the community's demands and underscoring the committee's steadfast commitment to advocating for the rights and dignity of the Kuki-Zo community.
As businesses prepare to reopen, CoTU has called on all members of the Kuki-Zo community to maintain unity and continue their support for the ongoing movement toward a separate administration.
CoTU had earlier warned of intensifying public protests if the state government does not to rescind its decision to resume public vehicular movement along the two routes.
