Imphal, July 05 2014 : The 65th State level Vana-mahotsava was observed today at Thoubal College, Thoubal under the aegis of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Government of Manipur.

Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Md Abdul Nasir was the chief guest, MLA of Wangjing Tentha constituency Paonam Brojen as president, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Manipur PN Prasad and O Chaoba Devi, Principal of Thoubal College was the co- hosts of the function.

Officials of various Government Departments, PRI members, senior citizens, Thoubal College NSS unit and general public attended the function.

The function kickstarted with plantation of tree saplings around the campus of Thoubal College led by the chief guest and the president.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Abdul Nasir reminded the public about the changing environment on account of wanton felling of trees.

He appealed to all the people of the State to be environment conscious and plant more trees.

He also lauded the Forest Department for organising such an auspicious programme and promised all possible assistance from his side.

MLA Brojen and Principal O Chaoba spoke in nutshell about the importance and significance of observing Vanamahotsav every year.

Earlier Principal Chief Conservator of Forest PN Prasad gave the welcome speech.

The function ended with the valedictory speech given by Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest RK Srivastava.
