Imphal, October 04 2023: Many called upon Governor Anusuiya Uikey today at Raj Bhavan to extend monetary assistance towards the Governor's Relief Fund and offer their services to the internally displaced folks.

Calling on the Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) K Himalay Singh, Chief Patron of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha (RSS), Manipur along with the RSS Manipur Branch president Satyajit Aribam and four other members handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh towards the Governor's Relief Fund.

While extending her gratitude to the organization, Governor Uikey informed that she has extended monetary assistance and distributed necessary items for the IDPs by visiting the relief camps in both valley and hill districts.

The president of RSS Manipur who is also the proprietor of E1 Bike, Manipur Branch also expressed his desire to give sustainable job opportunities to the displaced women of both communities by donating electric vehicles with an aim for employment generation and financial stability of IDPs.

Separately, Professor Krishnan Baskar, Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Sena-pati along with Professor Sukhi Orean, former Member, Jharkhand Public Service Commission, Ranchi, Dr Sarbajit and Mr Collin also handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh for the Governor's Relief Fund.

The sum is meant to provide relief and rehabilitation to those affected by the ongoing strife in Manipur since May 3 .

Meanwhile, Sanjay Tula, a Gujarat based social worker highlighted the activities taken up by his organisation called Vishwagram in various parts of the country for children affected by natural or man-made disasters.

He expressed his willingness to reach out and extend help to the internally displaced children taking refuge in various relief camps in Manipur by providing them with trauma counseling in the form of creative activities and also to coordinate education for them.

While informing the social worker of the ground situation of children in relief camps, Governor Uikey said that healing and mental peace for the children is the need of the hour and encouraged him to take up activities that will bring out the children from the trauma experienced from the conflict.

She also mentioned that the Government has already started the resettlement work for the IDPs and those in relief camps have started indulging in self sustenance tasks like making incense sticks and handloom and handicrafts activities for their financial stability.

Lastly, a team of North East Peoples' Organisation (NEPO), Manipur Chapter consisting of Professor W Nabakumar Singh, Prof Ch Priyoranjan Singh, Professor N Mohilal Meitei, S Bhubol and Dr Kh Gourashyam appealed to the Governor to initiate a peace process with the sole objective to restore peace and normalcy at the earliest.

The team also highlighted their activities to bring harmonious co-existence among the different communities in Manipur and lauded the Governor for her constructive activities in reaching out to both the communities in conflict.
