Decks cleared for Nov 6-16 Chinjak Festival

In association with Boss Juices, Innovative Youth Society is set to organise Chinjak Festival (5) International 2014 at Youth Lamjing Lup ground, Pishum Ningom Leikai from November 6 to 16 with a message to save Nambul river.
IYS secretary Khuraijam Athouba while speaking to reporters at their Sega Road office said that Nambul river has the potential to cater to the drinking water needs of Imphal if it is developed and maintained properly and added that the river would also add beauty to the ambience of the capital city.
However, the present condition of the river is disappointing as it looks like a drain, he added.
Considering the sorry state of the river, the organiser of this year's Chinjak Festival will send a message to the general public and people residing on both sides of the river to keep Nambul pollution free and neat and clean.
Regarding foreign participants at the festival, he said that food items of South East Asian countries would be mainly highlighted in this year's festival.
Last year, visitors got to test delicacies of different communities of North East India, he added.
Japanese curry rice, Japanese curry noodle soup, Tibetan Lambhi and momos, Korean Kimchi, Kimbap and Samgyeopsal, Singaporean Shark fin soup, herbal medici nous drink, milked coffee and pop corn and curry chicken rice, Thai Tom Yam Kung and chicken jinsung soup and Myanmarese traditional and indigenous food varieties would be available at international stalls during the festival.
Saying that the primary objective of the festival is to preserve and promote traditional indigenous foods of the State, Athouba said that apart from popular mouth watering items like Paknam, Nganam and Singju, various delicacies of Kabui, Tangkhul, Maring and Kuki tribes would also be available.
Rice beer, pork curry, prawn and eel singju would be the main attractions at Andro stall, he added.
Maintaining that Chinjak Festival will conclude five days ahead of the opening of the Sangai Festival, Athouba said that the Government must put in efforts to promote indigenous foods as these have the potential to attract foreign tourists.
He added that indigenous fishes like Ngaton and Pengba would be showcased during the event.
