Imphal, September 04 2024:
Chief Minister N Biren was prohibited by the Government of India from visiting Koutruk and Senjam Chirang on September 2 .
After a young woman who came to her parental home was killed and many others including her minor daughter were injured in aerial bombing carried out by Kuki terrorists using weaponised drones at Koutruk and several foothill villages on September 1, Kuki terrorists continued drone-propelled bombings at Senjam Chirang and some other Meitei villages the next day too.
Taking serious note of the continuous aerial bombing by Kuki terrorists, Chief Minister N Biren set out to visit Koutruk and Senjam Chirang on September 2 but he was stopped on the way by the Government of India, sources said.
As such, several social media posts which said that Chief Minister N Biren turned back midway from visiting Koutruk and Senjam Chirang were true.
After the violent conflict subsided considerably and a semblance of normalcy was emerging in the State, several Kuki organisations organised mass rallies at some places on August 31 .
However, on the next day (September 1), Kuki terrorists launched a more deadly warfare by bombing civilians and security forces from weaponised drones at several places including Koutruk in Imphal West.
Aggrieved and agitated by the continuous attack and aerial bombings which resulted in several casualties, Chief Minister N Biren set out for Koutruk and Senjam Chirang along with his security guards on September 2 .
Minutes before he set out for Koutruk and Senjam Chirang, N Biren dialled Union Home Minister Amit Shah but the phone call was not picked up.
As the Chief Minister and his security guards reached Mantripukhri, Amit Shah called N Biren instructed the Chief Minister not to visit Koutruk and Senjam Chirang.
Amit Shah also asked N Biren to turn back immediately, said the sources.
Following the strong instructions from the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister came back without visiting Koutruk and Senjam Chirang.
