Imphal, January 04 2014 :
Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ra-tankumar made a field assess- ment of the Dimapur plot of Manipur State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) which is currently occupied by many encroachers.
The Minister went for the field survey yesterday to see if a transit hotel or a guest house can be constructed there after evicting the encroachers.
The MSRTC complex at Dimapur is 4.2 acres in area.
Top officers of PWD and Transport Department were also present in Dr Ratanku-mar's trip to Dimapur.
The team also made a field assessment of the existing condition of Imphal-Dimapur highway.
Talking to media persons at Hotel Kent, Dimapur, Dr Ratankumar said that the plot allotted to MSRTC was given away to agencies in 2007 without any knowledge of the Government of Manipur.

After this automobile workshops were opened and many rooms were rented out.
Seeing this, Govt of Nagaland took over the said plot.
It was only after Chief Mi-nister O Ibobi wrote to his Nagaland counterpart that the Government of Manipur reclaimed the said plot on lease in 2011 .
After submitting a report on the existing condition of the MSRTC complex to the Chief Minister, the Government would study whether a transit hotel or a guest house can be constructed there, Dr Ratankumar stated.
He also conveyed gratitude to the Nagaland Chief Minister for leasing the said plot to the Government of Manipur for the second time.
Meanwhile, the Meitei Union Dimapur has urged the Government of Manipur to protect the MSRTC plot and use it for constructive purposes instead of letting it lie waste.
