Imphal, December 03 2011:
Alleging that police have not been doing any investigation into the controversial death of Dhanamanjuri, a protest demonstration was staged today at Thoubal
Mela ground.
On the other hand, Thoubal police station OC stated that many circumstantial evidences related with the case are yet to be collected.
The protest demonstration participated by family members and local people of Thoubal Athokpam denounced the alleged killing of Dhanamanjuri.
They alleged that police have been staying away from any form of investigation into the case till date.
One Mangi who took part in the protest demonstration alleged that police have been condoning the killers.
The protesters put up placards which read as "Killing of pregnant woman was a bestial crime", "Book and punish the killers", "Dhanamanjuri did not kill herself", "We condemn murder of pregnant woman" etc.
If the police were conducting any investigation, they should be taking statements of Dhanamanjuri's in-laws, her maternal family members as well as neighbouring people.
But no such statements have been recorded so far.
Instead of conducting any investigation, police have been guarding the house of Niranjoy since the night of November 25, Mangi asserted.
Late Dhanamanjuri's elder sister Memory appealed to the authorities concerned to conduct a thorough investigation and deliver justice with regard to the alleged killing of her sister.
She also decried alleged negligence of the case by Chief Minister O Ibobi, who also happens to be the local MLA.
She appealed to all civil society organisations and women groups to help in finding out the truths of the controversial murder case.
On the other hand, the Offier in-charge of Thoubal Police Station while speaking to media persons said that Dhanamanjuri's husband and father-in-law have been pulled up in connection with the case.
Even as statements of the husband and the father-in-law have been recorded, police have been unable to collect circumstantial evidence while looking after law and order situation.
Saying that the post mortem report may be received by Monday, the OC assured that facts and circumstances of the case would always remain and they cannot be obliterated.
The whole post mortem process was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and family members of both Dhanamanjuri and Niranjoy.
As such there is no possibility of destroying evidence and it would not be difficult to ascertain whether Dhanamanjuri was murdered or she killed herself, the OC added.
